BLUES Wall hanging finished size: 65 cm x 85 cm These pictures are thumbnails, click on them to see an enlargement. A large gum tree down by river provides a perch for a Blue Kingfisher which dives down into the cool streams. Create your own beautiful landscape art quilt. This full size applique pattern has complete needleturn applique instructions with optional embroidery embellishment, but you could applique your landscape in the method of your choice. Extra embellishment was added onto the head, upper wings, and tail of the Kingfisher, in different sparkling blue and turquoise glass seed beads. Other embroidery can be added with simple french knots and fly-stitch, which is indicated on the pattern, where we have used these simple stiches to suggest some grasses and reeds growing on the river bank, and some interesting knots on the gum leaves. Extra quilting lines are also printed on the pattern, to add in the swirling currents of the stream.

This needleturn applique pattern uses a hand sewing technique, the pieces are not fused to the background, they are sewn on by hand, using a small hemming stitch. (Although, you can of course make it up in your method of choice, the instructions supplied are for that of the needleturn technique). Using basic patchwork for the background and borders, the wall hanging is then appliqued. We like to add optional embroidery using bead embellishments on our quilt patterns to add an extra creative touch. Our patterns are ideal for textile art backgrounds, as the optional embroidery, can be as much or as little as you like.
